My group of Moto intern friends and I had an “End of Summer BBQ” on Thursday night that was originally planned to be at Independnce Grove in Libertyville, but was moved indoors to Elissa’s huge apartment in Gurnee because of inclement weather.

Hi, everyone! I'm Dean Santarinala, a 23 year old photographer from Chicago, Illinois. I have worked as a photojournalist and designer since 2006, but art has been a love of mine ever since I can remember. On my blog, I try to share the best of my personal adventures and professional work... and hope that all of you enjoy my posts!

Last weekend I spent some of my Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning helping my friend Jessi Sanchez with his charity soccer tourney. These two days were mostly kids playing which wasn’t really my photographic cup of tea. But here is one of my favorite shots.

No 1D mk III = acid-in-the-face 20D. I’ll link to the Edgar Sanchez Foundation website once I get them the photos.
Sam called me up today and asked me if I could take his portrait for his Harvard school ID card. Here’s the best of the quick 5 minute shoot which took place in my own backyard (aka his house):

Photo notes: I tried doing a 2 1/2 strobe setup but I think there’s something wrong with my Speedlite. FAIL. I didn’t feel like trying anymore so I just bounced off the ceiling since what I was planning was overkill anyway. I switched from f2.8 to f8 in the middle of it all, but I think I prefer the softness here at f2.8. Looking back I probably should have tried out Johnny’s 85mm f1.8 instead of my 70-200mm. The DOF would’ve been even more ballin’.
Saturday was my Mom’s birthday, but she had to work in the morning / early-afternoon. Here she is in my messy room after she came home, checking out newspaper ads. With summer flying by so quickly I’ve really come to enjoy and appreciate spending time with her. :-)

PS. I hate the 1.6x crop factor. Supposedly my 1D’s coming back on Friday. Hopefully in working order.
Treated my best friends out to dinner after work. :-)
