Ash Wednesday Quad feech from today:

Hi, everyone! I'm Dean Santarinala, a 23 year old photographer from Chicago, Illinois. I have worked as a photojournalist and designer since 2006, but art has been a love of mine ever since I can remember. On my blog, I try to share the best of my personal adventures and professional work... and hope that all of you enjoy my posts!

Here are some portraits I did for this story. The first photo is from the first day I met with her for like 10 minutes. I wanted to set it up somewhere that was weird and fit the angle of the story. What ended up happening was it being really cold/windy and my strobe kept falling over — so I got what I could, called it a day, and thanked her for standing in the cold for me. Luckily she was free the next day and we got some much better shots indoors with my strobe working its magic. Enjoy.

The reason I came home this weekend was because my brother is turning 30 today and my parents wanted to have dinner as a family to celebrate the occasion.

My mom loves my niece!

My other niece explores under the table.

Takeout chinese food.

My niece is still learning to talk. Barney helps.

My sister and her family.

Happy happy birthday cake. My dad played a birthday song CD which brought back memories.

My aunt and grandma pray the rosary in tagalog downstairs.
I try to go home once a month to visit the fam — usually I get pretty homesick when I look thru my photos, haha.
Drove home with Sam, Jesse, and Pat last weekend. Took the Amtrak back to school yesterday.

I love photo so much, but these days it doesn’t seem like there’s much opportunity to find visually appealing stuff. It’s quite sad actually. I think I just need to be shooting a lot more.
