Here Baby There Mamma

September 17, 2007

I’m trying to grow my hair out. I haven’t cut it since the beginning of the summer, and right now it’s slowly but surely getting longer. I’ve tried in the past to let it grow out, but there’s a certain point where it looks way too fugly and I lose patience with getting it to that “golden” place, since my hair grows so slowly.

But, this year I think I might be able to get past the fugly stage. Here’s a chart I drew of what I expect to see with my hair in the future:

Special Olympics Fun

September 16, 2007

This past Saturday I spent the morning and early afternoon voluntering in Lake Land College of Matoon, IL at the Special Olympics Family Festival. It was a really valuable experience for me — all the volunteers were partnered with a special needs “Olympian” and we took part in the festival (i.e. played carnival games, won prizes, and even listened to an Elvis impersonator).

My friend’s name was Brandon, and he was really cool. Brandon has had seizures in the past, so when I was partnered with him I was a little bit nervous and looked around with him to make sure we knew where his medication was. But aside from that, Brandon has an aura of tenacity and excitement surrounding him. It’s simply entoxicating. He was easy to understand and we got along well (which sorry to say wasn’t the same for a few people I went with). We also got matching tatoos! All in all, it was a worthwhile experience and a tiring day.

35mm Field of View

So lately I’ve been playing around with “Full-Frame” cameras and after not touching my EOS Rebel XT for a few days, I was surprised at the tightness of the 1.6 field-of-view that I had been using.

I’m really considering getting a 5D, but don’t want (or have — yet) the 2g to put down on this investment. And I’m very weary of a 5D update. Then there’s also the Nikon 3D or 1Ds Mk III to look at (yeah right, if I win the lottery that is */sarcasm/*).

So for now I’ll play the waiting game. My rebel XT has been a good camera. With an upgrade looming in the far future, the trusty lil’ rebel will be okay for a little bit longer.
